Bikepacking test – melting snow

December 5, 2010 at 10:40 am 4 comments

My break from paper writing this morning was melting snow with my cobalt alcohol stove. Temperature was 24 degrees. Decided to try one ounce of fuel.

One ounce ended up getting a bit over half a pot full of water almost to a boil before the fuel ran out. Next time I will try 1.5 ounces.

Really looking forward to getting my Backcountry Broiler to try out. It will be nice to not have to pre-guess how much fuel to use in the stove.  Another plus is not having to worry about running out of fuel.

Funny man. Hard to add snow while the lid is on. Next picture I will take after replacing lid…

Damn, I thought my Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics classes from college would pay off here with some grand advice. You got my best shot with the “lid” LOL.

“Put the lid on the pot” was on the final wasn’t it?
